Bison Western Museum to

Celebrate 1st Anniversary

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – The Bison Western Museum will celebrate its first anniversary on Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm in North Scottsdale. Festivities will include giveaways, contests, cowboy storytelling, free popcorn, candy and balloons and more.

To commemorate the one year anniversary, admission will be just $1 per visitor all day on the 18th.  In addition, the celebration will mark the official opening of the Lou & Evelyn Grubb Room exhibiting the woodcarvings of Dee Flagg.

Since opening its doors last October the Bison Western Museum has gained wide acceptance and has established itself as one of the finest collections of Western, Native American and bison memorabilia and artifacts in the country. Year two will feature a special Spirit of the Old West lecture series, a Welcome to Old Scottsdale display, Flagg family pieces previously not displayed and more.

The Bison Western Museum houses more than 30,000 pieces and features such exhibits as “Dances with Wolves” and Native American artifacts room, the Singing Buffalo Family, the Saddled Bison “photo op” and a vast assortment of bronzes, paintings and prints. The extensive Buffalo Bill exhibit includes historic photos, prints, trinkets, documents, one of his famous Sharps rifles and more.

Also highlighted is the personal collection of the Flagg family, Scottsdale’s own “first family” of Western artists. The Flagg collection contains hundreds of items from paintings to sketches, from the original Parada del Sol program cover artwork to life size wood carved figures of Buffalo Bill, Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok and others. In addition, the Flaggs created the artwork of the giant cowboy that has welcomed visitors to Scottsdale for over 50 years. A blow up of the original sketch is on display.

The museum is complemented by a gift shop, western library, party lounge, Western pavilion and the Bison Homes Information Center. It is located at 16641 N. 91st Street in Scottsdale, just north of West World. For more information and hours of operation please call 480-837-8700, or visit www.bisonwesternmuseum.com

Home Builder Taylor Morrison by quotes

Home builder Taylor Morrison has shifted its North American headquarters westward, moving its base of operations from Florida to Arizona.

The home builder relocated its corporate offices to Scottsdale, Arizona., at the end of July to better align the company’s headquarters with its strongest home building markets, said Taylor Morrison President and Chief Executive Officer Sheryl Palmer.

“We see our relocation to Arizona as being beneficial for Taylor Morrison as a whole,” Palmer said. “Our biggest markets are located in the western United States and they will provide significant growth for the company in years to come.”

Taylor Morrison currently operates more than 200 communities across the United States. The company also operates in Canada as the Monarch Corporation.

UNDERSTANDING THE EMOTIONS OF A CAREER CHANGE by quotes

Scottsdale Job Network Meeting

SJN MEETING: TUES, February 5, 2008

UNDERSTANDING THE EMOTIONS OF A CAREER CHANGE

Join us on as we roll out the SJN CURRICULUM on the Job Search Process.

Have you been “down-sized,” “right-sized,” “acquired,” “merged”? No matter what the cause, you find yourself out of work. In this time of transition, you will experience a roller coaster of emotions. Join us when SJN Board member and member of the Curriculum Development Committee, Maria Wojtczak, helps participants understand the emotions that may surface during the job transition period. Maria will share strategies for coping with those emotions. Moving forward, you’ll find it easier to focus energies on your job search and next employment opportunity.

Facilitator Maria Wojtczak has 20+ years of organization development (OD) experience and worked with a wide range of organizations. She has worked with Chris Vicari, President of the Scottsdale Job Network, offering the Passions workshop and Job Transition workshops for the last five years. She currently serves on the SJN Board and is a member of the Curriculum Development committee. Maria is a graduate of the University of Michigan. She is also the owner of DrivingMBA, a driver tutoring facility here in the valley.

What does it cost to participate?

We do not require membership dues or meeting fees to allow everyone who is in job transition to be able to participate. Since our program is unfunded, we suggest that participants make a voluntary donation of $5 per meeting. When we have an all-day workshop, we do need to pass the costs along to participants.

Meetings are held on the first and third Tuesday mornings:

9-9:30 Networking, resume reviews, contact with recruiters

9:30 Welcome, announcements, introductions

10:00 Speaker begins

11:15 Speaker ends, feedback collected

Networking continues until 11:30

We meet at and use space provided by Temple Chai, 4645 East Marilyn Road, Phoenix, AZ 85032-4839. Temple Chai is located just east of the Piestawa Freeway (Route 51) and South & West of the loop 101 (PIMA FREEWAY SECTION). Marilyn Road is on the west side of Tatum Blvd. between Thunderbird and Greenway Roads

Scottsdale Job Network (SJN) is a non-profit community group of business leaders and volunteers. We are not a job placement forum, and we do not match candidates to openings nor do we send resumes to employers or recruiters. There is no guarantee of employment either directly through this group or as a result of association with SJN. We do, however, provide education in the job search process and all attendees have the opportunity to meet and work with people who offer support and guidance during employment transition.

The value of SJN lies in the skills, business networks and personal passions of our members. Membership is open to everyone willing to share their skills and anyone interested in local networking or in need of employment transition support.
