Have you ever awakened in the morning feeling stuck in your job search or in your current position and frustrated that you had no other career options that inspired or motivated you to take action?
The purpose of this one-day workshop is to assist people who may be stuck in their job search or in their current jobs. Often individuals limit themselves to what they “have always done” because it was the career that defined them for many years. They tend to lose sight of the many skills and strengths that they have developed through their life experience.
For those of you who have suspected that you were falling short of your passion or “calling,” this workshop may be of help to you! The program is designed to highlight tools to assist individuals determine where they might be stuck and to begin to identify their strengths, talents and preferences.
Facilitator: Maria Wojtczak has 20+ years of organization development (OD) experience and worked with a wide range of organizations. She brings extensive experience in the field of adult learning concepts, and in the design and facilitation of adult learning experiences. In her OD practice, Maria coached senior leadership and consulted with senior executives, high-level education personnel, as well as middle management. Maria’s focus, in her consulting practice and in her business, is organizational effectiveness and the development of individuals. Maria is a graduate of the University of Michigan and a member of SJN’s Board.

City of Phoenix Hosts Young Entrepreneur Workshop
Students, young business owners and active professionals are invited to attend the Young Entrepreneur Showcase, 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Burton Barr Central Library, 1221 N. Central Ave., Pulliam Auditorium.
Nationally recognized motivational speaker Allison Bell, founder and president of Embrace Today Concepts Inc., will deliver the keynote address focusing on helping young entrepreneurs improve their inner spirit, self-esteem and community service.
The workshop will provide practical advice on how to build a successful company, free resources available from the city of Phoenix and networking opportunities.

SCOTTSDALE RESORTS WILL CONTINUE HOSTING COLLEGE BOWL TEAMS
A long-term agreement to host college national championship, Fiesta Bowl and Insight Bowl teams at Scottsdale area resorts – and continue drawing their fans to Scottsdale – was approved by the Scottsdale City Council this week.
The agreement also paves the way for a new Fiesta Bowl Museum at the Scottsdale Waterfront, where the Fiesta Bowl will soon open its new headquarters.
The 20-year agreement aims to preserve a long-standing relationship between Scottsdale and the Fiesta Bowl while the organization makes significant changes beginning in 2007. Next year, the Fiesta Bowl moves from Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe to the new Cardinals Stadium in Glendale. Next year also marks the first time the Fiesta Bowl hosts a new Bowl Championship Series National Championship Game, which will be played at the Glendale stadium every four years. Meanwhile, the Insight Bowl will move from Chase Field in Phoenix to Sun Devil Stadium.
Fiesta Bowl teams have stayed in Scottsdale resorts and practiced in the area for more than two decades.
The agreement relies on hotel room tax revenue to fund yearly payments to the Fiesta Bowl. The agreement calls for a one-time payment of $500,000 to the organization in 2007. Annual payments begin at $210,000, and include a second, identical payment when a BCS college championship comes to the Valley.
Altogether, the Fiesta Bowl would receive more than $8.2 million over 20 years.
In return, Scottsdale will continue to receive a substantial portion of the regional economic impact associated with the bowl games. Between 2001 and 2006, the estimated regional impact ranged from $165 million to $228 million annually. The city’s Economic Vitality Department estimates the direct return in taxes to the city over the 20-year period will range from $12 million to $15 million.

GPEC Announces Leadership of Economic Development Directors Team
August 15, 2006 (Phoenix, Arizona) – Bruce MacTurk, economic development program manager for the City of Phoenix, has been elected chairman of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) Economic Development Directors Team (EDDT). Additionally, Sheri Wakefield-Saenz, economic development manager for the City of Tempe, joins the leadership team to serve as the EDDT vice-chair.
“With the diverse background Bruce and Sheri have in economic development, I am confident this team will provide valuable guidance and support for GPEC’s initiatives,” said Barry Broome, GPEC president and CEO. “GPEC’s Board of Directors appreciate their commitment not only to their respective cities, but to the entire region.”
Members of EDDT are made up of economic development professionals from GPEC’s member communities, higher educational institutions, utility companies and other economic development partners and act as an advisory committee to the President and CEO. Monthly meetings are held to discuss regional issues and GPEC’s strategic efforts, and to assist GPEC’s business development team in attracting new business to Greater Phoenix.
MacTurk has served on EDDT since 2001 and has worked in economic development for more than 18 years. He is an active member of the Arizona Association for Economic Development (AAED) and CoreNet Global, an association for corporate real estate professionals.
Wakefield-Saenz has worked in economic development for over 16 years and has been an EDDT member for over 11 years. She is an active participant of AAED and is a Certified Economic Developer.
MacTurk and Wakefield-Saenz’s terms officially began July 1 and end June 30, 2007.

Public Invited to Review and Discuss Proposed Alternatives for Phoenix Goodyear Airport
Phoenix, AZ — The City of Phoenix Aviation Department is inviting the public to an informational workshop on the master planning process for Phoenix Goodyear Airport. The workshop will be held Wednesday August 16, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Goodyear, 2000 N. Litchfield Road. This is the third such workshop hosted by the City of Phoenix Aviation Department.
The Airport Master plan currently being prepared for Phoenix Goodyear Airport will ultimately provide recommendations regarding the future development of the airport. Phoenix Goodyear Airport is owned and operated by the City of Phoenix.
During the August 16 workshop, proposed alternatives will be reviewed and discussed. Members of the project team will be available for one-on-one discussions. There will also be opportunities for the public to provide written or verbal comments. Members of the public are invited to drop in any time between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Falcon Field Airport development expanding
The City of Mesa and Grubb & Ellis are excited to report the signing of a second long-term lease for hangar development at Falcon Field Airport. Reilly Aviation, LLC is leasing 5.25 acres in the northwest quadrant of Falcon Field Airport. The lease will generate more than $73,000 of annual revenue for the airport.
Plans for the development include 30 t-hangars and 17 box hangars, approximately 70,000 to 80,000 square feet of hangars for individual or corporate aviation use. Joe Reilly, principal of Reilly Aviation LLC, states, “We welcome requests for hangar sizes and amenitites for our project. We want to build the development to meet the demands of the aviation community at Falcon Field.”
Falcon Field Airport Director, Corrine Nystrom emphasizes, “This project’s positive economic impact on Falcon Field Airport further demonstrates the aviation and development synergy of the area by adding to the already 1.5 million square feet of 2006 projects under construction within a 1-mile radius of the Airport in the Falcon Field District.”
Falcon Field Airport is located between McKellips and McDowell Roads and Greenfield and Highley Roads with convenient access to the Red Mountain 202 Freeway less than 1-mile away. Falcon Field Airport ranks 3rd in terms of economic impact among Arizona airports, behind Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Tucson International Airport and ranks among the “top 10” in the nation for general aviation airports in terms of based aircraft and number of flight operations.
