Encanto Golf Course to Host Amputee Golf Tournament for the First TimeThe Western Amputee Golf Association’s (WAGA) first tournament of the 2007 season will be held at the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department’s Encanto Golf Course on Friday, April 27. This 501 C3 non-profit organization sponsors amputee golf tournaments throughout the western United States and this year’s schedule includes tournaments in Sacramento, Calif., Greely, Colo., Kent, Wash. and Antioch, Calif.
WAGA gives golfers who have lost a limb or are physically challenged the opportunity to get out and play. For those who have never played golf, but are interested in trying, they can contact the National Amputee Golf Association at 800-633-NAGA for information on learning to play golf. The city will have five SoloRider golf carts available for use at this tournament. This specially designed cart allows those golfers who have not been able to play because of a disability or mobility impairment the opportunity to once again enjoy the game.Encanto Golf Course is located at 2745 N. 15th Ave. To register for the Amputee Golf Tournament and for more information about the city’s five 18-hole and three 9-hole courses, visit online at phoenix.gov/golf or call 602-262-7334.
