Exploring the Earth’s oceans is an Underwater FantaSEA

The blue inviting water of oceans around the world and their colorful marine life have been a source of inspiration for artists throughout history. To celebrate all there is to love about these living waters, the=

Arizona Museum for Youth (AMY) presents its newest exhibit, “Underwater=

FantaSEA,” from Saturday, March 9 through July 22, 2007.

The exhibit features works by 21 artists who bring together a myriad of =

colors and mysterious creatures to take you on a journey under the sea. =

The more than 60 paintings, drawings and multimedia pieces on view all =

highlight the beauty of oceans.

Items on display include:

· Tropical underwater color photographs by Arizona artist Michael


· Hand-made enamel on copper metalwork by Tempe artist Mary Chuduk

· Oil paintings by Deborah McMillion Nering of Phoenix, depicting

sea creatures intermixing with humans within surreal interiors

· Sculptural steel and glass sculptures by Pennsylvania artist

· Glass bead embroidered mermaids by local artist Christy Puetz

In the Art Gallery art-based activities will enhance visitors’ knowledg= e about the plants, animals and composition of the ocean.

Young artists and designers can:

· Design a custom ocean-themed collage

· Hunt for sunken treasure near a shipwreck

· Sketch an underwater scene

· Experience these living waters in our virtual ocean video


· Sit in an ocean cave and enjoy a variety of books about the sea

Swim over to AMY and learn about the fish and marine mammals which we share this planet with and enjoy the FantaSEA. It will be boatloads of fu= n!


Located at 35 N. Robson in downtown Mesa, the Arizona Museum for Youth is=

open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, 12 p.m.

through 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for everyone 1 year of age and over. Free=

for members and those under the age of 1.

The Arizona Museum for Youth is a fine art museum for children and families. A place to introduce your family to art, the museum hosts several changing exhibitions each year and features ArtVille, a special =

art-town for kids less than 4 years of age. As part of the exhibitions, a=
