Phoenix Convention Center Names Deputy Director of Sales and Marketing and Client Services Manager

Kathy Schultheiss has been named deputy director of sales and marketing and Larry Garcia has been named client services manager of the Phoenix Convention Center.

Prior to joining the Phoenix Convention Center, Schultheiss served as vice president of Convention Sales and Marketing for Qwest Center Omaha in Omaha, Neb. and began her career in the hospitality industry as director of Sales at Holiday Inn in North Platte, Neb.

With more than 15 years of experience specializing in sales and marketing in the hospitality industry, Schultheiss heads an aggressive sales and marketing program for the Phoenix Convention Center and interfaces daily with the Greater Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau and downtown hotels to maximize event activity in the center.

Schultheiss is a certified meeting professional and certified hospitality sales professional.

“Kathy brings a proven, successful track record in convention sales and we are delighted to have her on our team,” said Jay Green, director, Phoenix Convention Center Department.

Prior to being named client services manager, Garcia served as operations manager for Symphony Hall and Orpheum Theatre. He also served as the event services manager and as operations manager at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.

With more than 20 years of experience specializing in event facility problem solving, Garcia now oversees the convention center’s client services section which includes direct supervision of event managers and event representatives.

Garcia is a 2004 graduate of the Public Assembly Facility Management School and an active member of the International Association of Assembly Managers.

“Larry is a seasoned professional and his experience in the convention center industry is critical as we open Phase One of our expansion,” said Green. “We congratulate him on his promotion.”

In addition to the Phoenix Convention Center, the City of Phoenix Convention Center Department also owns/operates a family of venues including seven downtown parking garages and Phoenix Stages (Symphony Hall, Orpheum Theatre and Herberger Theater Center).

The Phoenix Convention Center’s current $600 million expansion will elevate it into the top 20 convention centers in North America. When the expansion is complete in late 2008, the convention center will feature nearly 900,000 square feet of exhibition and meeting space.
