City of Tempe announcement: case settled

We are pleased to announce that the City of Tempe, its insurance
company, and the nine Public Works employees who were found by a federal
jury to have suffered past discrimination in the City have reached a
settlement. The settlement finalizes all claims existing between the
individuals and the City. The City regrets the improper treatment that
these members of our community received in the past and apologizes for
those past acts. The plaintiffs are very appreciative that the the
entire City Council recognized and took responsibility for the problems
in the past, but also recognize and appreciate that the Council  took
steps to and did correct those problems, and continues to work hard to
ensure that city workers are given opportunities to do their jobs in a
positive, constructive and respectful work environment. We all look
forward to continuing to work together to build upon this foundation for
the benefit of all City employees.
